Tree & Wildflower Portfolio
Nature paintings allow a person to feel at peace, to regain that connection between land and soul. I find that the magic of the trees & wildflowers that surround me provide endless inspiration. While some artistic depictions of nature can be about intellectual thought and spirituality, I believes my paintings of trees & flowers are done simply to display the beauty of the natural world around us.
Most artists paint nature simply because it is a pleasing endeavor that is a fun challenge when it comes to color and form. For instance, flowers are an accessible subject that you don’t have to spend a fortune on for props, yet the payoff can be solid gold. The textures of tree trunks and foliage and the shapes found in their branches are the focus of other artists.
I fall in love with a specific species and have to learn all about it. Whether it’s how black oaks first look when they leaf-out in the Spring, or how the peeling bark of a Madrone tree appears, or the range of colors of Douglas iris, my paintings not only recreate the natural world but also create new ways in which to see it in another light. In other words, I strive to make my paintings be voice of nature that so many people miss.
